Reading digital theses in the closed network of the Aalto University Harald Herlin Learning Centre

You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): Inverter-based photovoltaic system consists of solar panels which generate direct current.
Direct current is converted to alternating current by using an inverter, and the alternating current is fed to the grid.
The inverter may collect information about the status of the solar panels by measuring, for example, voltages and produced power.
The inverter may be located at the roof of a building and the information needs to be transferred to a computer inside the building for further analysis.

In this thesis the transmission of measurement data is implemented wirelessly with internet technologies.
To test the data transmission an experiment was conducted.
Inverter control boards were used to generate simulated data and a wireless mesh network was formed to transfer data from inverters located at the roof.
Devices from various manufacturers were used in the experiment.
The applicability of different application protocols was evaluated.

Based on the experiment the devices of the manufacturers were compatible with each other and can be used together in the same network thanks to the common 6LoWPAN protocol.
In order to use these technologies in practice there are, however, some open questions to be solved regarding the power consumption of wireless nodes and the formation of mesh network.
On the other hand, some of the evaluated standards are still under development, and thus problems in implementation can be explained by immature standards.
Abstract (fin): Invertteripohjainen aurinkosähköjärjestelmä koostuu aurinkopaneeleista, jotka tuottavat tasavirtaa.
Tasavirta muunnetaan invertterillä vaihtovirraksi, jotta se voidaan syöttää sähköverkkoon.
Invertteri voi kerätä tietoa aurinkopaneelien toiminnasta mittaamalla esimerkiksi jännitteitä sekä tuotettua tehoa.
Invertteri saattaa sijaita aurinkopaneelien yhteydessä talon katolla, ja mittausdata tulisi siirtää invertteriltä talon sisälle tietokoneelle analysointia varten.

Tässä työssä on toteutettu mittausdatan langaton tiedonsiirto käyttäen hyväksi internet-teknologioita.
Tiedonsiirron testaamiseksi toteutettiin koejärjestely, jossa talon katolle sijoitettiin invertterien ohjauskortteja tuottamaan simuloitua mittausdataa.
Mittausdatan siirtoa varten rakennettiin eri valmistajien langattomista solmuista koostuva langaton mesh-verkko, ja erilaisten sovellusprotokollien soveltuvuutta tiedonsiirtoon verkossa arvioitiin.

Koejärjestelyn verkossa eri valmistajien solmulaitteet saatiin toimimaan keskenään yhteisen 6LoWPAN-protokollan ansiosta.
Langattomassa tiedonsiirrossa on kuitenkin vielä joitakin avoimia kysymyksiä solmujen tehonkulutuksen optimointiin sekä mesh-verkon muodostukseen liittyen.
Tutkittujen teknologioiden hyödyntäminen käytännössä edellyttää naiden kysymysten ratkaisemista.
Toisaalta osa tutkituista standardeista on vielä luonnosvaiheessa, mikä osaltaan selittää havaittuja ongelmia toteutuksissa.
