Abstract (eng): The rapid development of LED technology has brought new innovative lighting solutions to the market and has also created new customer needs in recent years.
The commissioning company of this Master's thesis wanted to explore the new possibilities of LEDs and to react to these new customer needs.
One of the most important new customer needs was identified to be LED-based decorative elements.
The main goal of this thesis was to research which make-or-buy option would be the best alternative for the implementation of these LED-based decorative elements.
In order to reach this goal, a development project was launched.

The most essential methods used in the development process were supplier prototype comparison and make-or-buy analysis.
In supplier prototype comparison, the LED lighting panel prototypes of the suppliers were analysed and scored.
Those suppliers whose prototypes reached at least the minimum score limit were selected to the make-or-buy analysis.
In this analysis, three make-or-buy alternatives were analysed: "Buy", "Buy-and-make" and "Make".
Different options were evaluated by concentrating on three aspects: company's competence development, opportunities and risks.

The evaluation of the supplier prototypes showed that only one supplier was capable of manufacturing a prototype which fulfilled the minimum requirements.
Thus, this supplier was selected to the make-or-buy analysis.
This analysis showed that the best alternative for the implementation of the LED-based decorative elements was "Buy-and-make" case.
Therefore, it was recommended that the company should both develop further collaboration with the identified supplier and continue developing the LED panel concept.
