Abstract (eng): In the future, wastewater heat recovery will need to be used in residential buildings as one method of increasing energy efficiency.

In this study a method of wastewater heat recovery suitable for single family houses was tested to investigate how much it can reduce electricity consumption.
In the tested system energy from wastewater is recovered by using the ground source heat pump that is the main heating source of the building.
In addition, an economic analysis was done to find the circumstances under which wastewater heat recovery in single family houses can be economically profitable in general.

The wastewater heat recovery system was tested using a case study.
The analysis of the heat recovery system was done as a part of the design process of a large single family house.
The case study included simulation tests of the building and its heating system.
The simulation tests were done with the TRNSYS 17.0 program.

According to the results of the simulation test, the wastewater heat recovery system did not increase heat pump performance significantly, thus, electricity saving was low.
However, the heat recovery efficiency of the system was high.
Installing the tested system was not deemed economically profitable.
The best way to improve the performance of the system would be installing a separate heat pump for wastewater heat recovery.

The results of the economic calculations revealed that with current electricity prices wastewater heat recovery in a single family house with a separate heat pump would likely not be economically profitable.
On the other hand, with electricity price of 20 c/kWh wastewater heat recovery can become economically profitable in systems where the main heating source is direct electric heating, for example, in passive houses.
Abstract (fin): Tulevaisuudessa jäteveden lämmöntalteenotto tulee olemaan yksi tärkeä keino asuintalojen energiatehokkuuden parantamisessa.

Simulointikokeet suoritettiin TRNSYS 17.0 -ohjelmistolla.
