Abstract (eng): In the thesis it is studied if Wireless Local Area Network is suited for a wireless multichannel microphone system.
The system is based on the contention-free mode of PCF method in the WLAN standard.
The focus of the study was in the capacity of the network, management of the contention-free traffic and error-free transmission.
In the study the wireless medium is well managed.
In the work the contention-free traffic is found to function with minor restrictions.
Also the transmission of audio signal is found to function with desired audio frames.
It is shown that the transmission rate of the current 802.11g standard is not sufficient for the full 16 channels of the system in question.
With fewer channels real-time transmission is possible.
However, the results are promising regarding the higher data rates of the emerging 802.11n standard.
Abstract (fin): Työssä on tutkittu langattoman lähiverkon soveltumista monikanavaiselle langattomalle mikrofonijärjestelmälle.
Järjestelmä perustuu WLAN standardin PCF-metodin kilpailuttoman liikenteen ominaisuuteen.
Pienemmällä kanavamäärällä reaaliaikainen tiedonsiirto on kuitenkin mahdollinen.
Tulokset ovat lupaavia tulevan 802.11n standardin nopeampaa tiedonsiirtoa ajatellen.
