Abstract (eng): | Finite element method is a commonly used computational method in electromagnetic field problems. The aim of this work was to validate a finite element model developed for the analysis of cage induction motors. The finite element model is validated using benchmark analytical method and thermal model available for cage induction motors. The idea used in validating finite element method using analytical method is imitating the geometry defined in analytical method by the finite element method. Time stepping finite element analysis is applied to the obtained geometry to get the results. These results are compared with analytical method results. The idea used in validating finite element method with thermal model is introducing the computed losses into the thermal model. The results from the thermal model give the temperature distribution of the induction motor. The obtained results are compared with the measured results. With the comparison results, validity of the finite element model is obtained. |
