Abstract (eng): | Motion capture is a popular method for acquiring realistic motion data for human characters. Such data is commonly used in computer animation, games and special effects in films due to the natural appearance of the motions compared to most other means of generating and acquiring motion data. However, re-use of such data is difficult because with traditional editing methods the naturalness of the original motion is lost. Many techniques have been developed to facilitate the reuse in specific ways, and our method concentrates on exaggerating dynamic motion. First the reader is introduced to the complexities of human motion by exploring the anatomy of human motion and what exactly makes motion appear natural. Representing animated characters and motion in computer graphics as well as methods of generating and editing motion are also explored. The approach we take to exaggerating motion is based on theories originally created for analyzing and notating dance motions. Finding a mathematical representation for how intense a motion appears allows us to calculate a value that represents the perceived intensity of the motion. This value can then be used to guide an optimization process that seeks a motion that is as similar to the original motion as possible, but has its intensity value changed by a desired factor. Finally, we present our method and demonstrate its success by studying how the intensity and naturalness of the generated motions is perceived by test subjects. |
Abstract (fin): | Liikkeensieppaus on suosittu tapa tuottaa luonnollista ihmisliikettä. Liikkeensiepattua liikettä käytetään paljon tietokoneanimaatiossa, peleissä ja elokuvien erikoistehosteissa useimpiin muihin liikkeen tuottamistapoihin verrattuna luonnollisemman vaikutelman takia. Hankitun tiedon uudelleenkäyttö on kuitenkin vaikeaa koska perinteisiä muokkausmenetelmiä käyttäen liikkeen luonnollisuus usein menetetään. Liikkeen muokkaukseen on esitetty erilaisia menetelmiä, yleensä spesifisiin käyttötarkoituksiin. Etsimällä matemaattisen esitystavan liikkeen intensiteetille pystymme laskemaan liikkeelle intensiteettiarvon. |
