Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): The aim of this thesis was to study, if it is technically, economically and ecologically reasonable to use recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) as a subcomponent of concrete.
In this study it is examined, how much concrete is recycled world-wide and what kinds of technical features recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) has had in previous studies.
In the experimental part of the study the best aggregate mix of recycled aggregate concrete is examined.
The laboratory tests were carried out by making test samples.
It was also studied if the RAC is more ecological than normal concrete.

The experimental part consisted of testing hardened concrete specimens.
The difference between the concretes was amount, fraction and quality of RCA.
As well as compressive strength the workability of the RAC was examined in laboratory tests.
When the optimal RAC was found, the ecological aspects of the mixture were studied.

The laboratory tests showed, that the best concrete was made by using water washed recycled coarse concrete aggregate.
The raw RCA includes much fine filler that increases the air content of fresh concrete.
The higher the air content of the fresh concrete is the lower the compressive strength of the hardened concrete is obtained.
The high water absorption of the RCA causes a high variation of the water content.
Abstract (fin): Työn tarkoituksena oli selvittää, voidaanko uusiokiviainesta eli betonimursketta käyttää betonin kiviaineksena siten, että valmistettua uusiobetonia olisi teknillisesti, taloudellisesti ja ekologisesti järkevää käyttää.
Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin, missä mittakaavassa uusiobetonin valmistusta on tutkittu muualla maailmassa sekä minkälaisia teknisiä ominaisuuksia uusiobetonilla on näissä tutkimuksissa ollut.
Kokeellisessa osassa selvitettiin parhaan uusiobetonin koostumus.
Lisäksi tutkittiin, onko kyseisen betonin valmistus ekologista verrattuna vastaavaan luonnon kiviaineksesta valmistettuun betoniin.

Laboratoriokokeissa valmistettiin erilaisia uusiobetoneja.
Betoneissa oli erona uusiokiviaineksen määrä, lajite ja laatu.
Valmistetuista uusiobetoneista tutkittiin lujuuden lisäksi työstettävyyttä ja ilmapitoisuutta.
Teknisesti parhaiten toimivan uusiobetonin ekologisuutta tutkittiin.

Laboratoriokokeissa havaittiin, että uusiokiviaineksen laadulla on suuri merkitys betonin lujuuteen.
Uusiokiviaineksen sisältämä hienoaines aiheuttaa paljon huokosia betoniin, minkä vuoksi pesty uusiokiviaines oli käytetyillä uusiokiviainesmäärillä ainoa teknisesti ja taloudellisesti toimiva ratkaisu.
Betonimursketta on kokonaisvaltaisesti ekologisempaa käyttää teiden pohjarakenteissa kuin betonin runkoaineena.
Uusiokiviaineksen suurella vedenimulla on suuri merkitys lopullisen vedentarpeeseen ja loppulujuuteen.
