Abstract (eng): | Hyperspectral lidar measures remotely backscattered spectrum of an actively illuminated target. The unique spectra of different materials enable remote target recognition. Broadband illumination is carried out with supercontinuum (SC) lasers. Operation distance of published lidar prototypes has been very limited, mainly due to the use of commercially available low power photonic crystal fiber (PCF) SC lasers. A hyperspectral lidar was developed in this work. Long operation distance was reached with the use of high power SC light source, built and characterised in this work. The averaged optical power of the source is 16 W for wavelength band 1000 - 2300 nm and M2 factor of the beam was 2. Lens and mirror-based optics were tested for transmitting the SC. Back-scattered light was collected with a reflective telescope to a optical fiber, connected to commercial grating spectrometer. Optimization of the transmitter and receiver for varying distances was automated with motorized translation stages. Computer controlled scanner and integrated rangefinder enabled hyperspectral imaging. The instrument was tested in laboratory and field conditions during 2013. Reflection spectra of numerous civil and military targets were measured from varying distances up to 1.5 km. Measurement results show promise for the instrument to be used in target recognition. Ideas for further development are discussed. |
Abstract (fin): | Hyperspektrinen lidar mittaa etäältä laajakaistaisesti valaistusta kohteesta heijastuneen spektrin. Eri materiaalien ominaiset spektrit mahdollistavat kohteentunnistuksen. Edelleen kehityksen mahdollisuuksia on pohdittu. |
