Abstract (eng): The variety of mobile phones and other mobile devices that support Bluetooth and MMS messaging is increasing rapidly.
Also, the amount of memory and processing power of mobile devices is continuously increasing, which enables the development of more and more complex applications to them.
In this thesis, the possibility to convey MMS messages over Bluetooth is explored.
In addition to this, the use of a local MMS proxy/relay (i.e., an MMS proxy/relay, which is located in a mobile terminal) and content adaptation are examined.

In thesis's theory part, the basic principles of MMS messaging, current and possible future network solutions as well as the basics of multimedia messages' content adaptation and the programming platforms that are needed to implement the actual applications are handled first.
In addition to this, different scenarios that extend the MMS architecture by taking advantage of Bluetooth and local MMS proxy/relay are examined and the requirements that these solutions have and the applications and services that they enable are considered.

In thesis's demo part, the following applications that demonstrate these solutions are implemented using Java programming language: local MMS proxy/relay, content adaptation application and MMS messaging over Bluetooth.
Three different user interfaces are built on top of these to demonstrate different possible services.
Abstract (fin): MMS-viestintää ja Bluetoothia tukevien matkapuhelimien ja muiden mobiilien päätelaitteiden kirjo kasvaa jatkuvasti.
