Abstract (eng): | The main purpose of this thesis is to study the business opportunities of uncoated plywood in China by answering three research questions. The research is carried out by adopting the information environment model mentioned by Prof. Heikki Juslin (2003). Data related to the macro environment of plywood, mainly the demand and supply of plywood in China as well as the drivers of plywood demand and the regional difference, are collected via secondary data such as custom statistics, year book, public media, scientific journal, conference release, etc. Data related to the micro environment of plywood, mainly competitors, end-users and large distributors of plywood, are collected via face to face interviews. The 37 interviewees are divided into four groups: authorities & associations, plywood producers, plywood end-users and large distributors. Some of the findings of this study are presented via the business screen chart. The following conclusions regarding=the research questions are made. RQ1: The most potential end-uses are bus and train wagon floor, multi-layer flooring and curved furniture; the second potential end-uses are train wagon space dividing and decoration panel for furniture. RQ2: The good enough plywood product, plywood of qualified quality with reasonable price, is suitable for the China market. Other plywood products with special properties are also welcomed. RQ3: With Shanghai as its centre, the Yangtze River Delta appears to be the most suitable market for a foreign product. |
