You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): The purpose of this thesis is to describe a system that was developed for Finland's Slot Machine Association in 2009 to control minors playing with slot machines.

Finland's Slot Machine Association has a monopoly for slot machines in Finland.
The responsible nature of the association's operations plays a key role in maintaining their monopoly.
One of the greatest challenges for this responsibility is to stop minors from playing with slot machines.

At the moment the age limit for playing with slot machines is 15 years.
The limit will rise to 18 years in the short-term future.
When a player uses electronic money or a charge card, their age can be determined using the information obtained from the banking system.
Controlling playing with coins is more difficult because it requires constant supervision of the slot machines, The system described in this thesis is based on communication between Nokia N810 Internet Tablet and a slot machine through a wireless network.
Using N810 the supervisor can remotely control the behaviour of the slot machine when noticing a minor.
Abstract (fin): Tämän diplomityön tarkoituksena on kuvata Raha-automaattiyhdistykselle vuonna 2009 kehitetty järjestelmä alaikäisten pelaamisen valvomiseen.

Raha-automaattiyhdistyksellä on yksinoikeus raha-automaattipelitoimintaan Suomessa.
RAY:n toiminnan vastuullisuus on avainasemassa yksinoikeuden säilymisessä.
Yksi vastuullisuuden suurimmista haasteista on alaikäisten henkilöiden pelaamisen estäminen.

Tällä hetkellä ikäraja raha-automaattien pelaamiseen on 15 vuotta.
Ikäraja nousee lähitulevaisuudessa 18 vuoteen.
Sähköisellä rahalla pelattaessa pelaajan eli maksukortin haltijan ikä voidaan määrittää pankkijärjestelmien avulla.
Kolikkopelaamisen valvonta on vaikeampaa, koska se vaatii jatkuvaa raha-automaattien tarkkailua.

Tässä työssä kehitetty järjestelmä perustuu Nokian N810-mobiililaitteen ja raha-automaatin väliseen kommunikaatioon langattoman verkkoyhteyden avulla.
N810:n avulla valvoja pystyy tarvittaessa ohjaamaan etäältä raha-automaatin toimintaa huomatessaan alaikäisen pelaajani.
