| Abstract (eng): | The project is a design of a communal lodging typology close to nature to Kuhmo. The work is based on my competition entry to a design competition organized by the academic chair of Wood Construction during the summer 2011. The project is a further study of one of the lodging typologies presented in the competition. The chosen typology consists of a central space which is surrounded by four courtyards. The courtyards are formed of private lodging units and shared bathing, lounge and storage buildings. The main theme of the architecture is the contrast between the organic forest nature and the artificial buildings of the human being. The construction is a prefabricated module based geometric system. The random tree patterns of the forest interact with the regular rhythm of the structure creating spatial variety and tension. The contrast represents the juxtaposition of culture and nature. The architectural elements of the project are: The grand roof, which protects all the others and creates the courtyard by connecting the rest of the elements. The terrace, which allows for easy access and protects the 'fragile ground vegetation. And the accommodation units, which are the protection against the forces of nature as they are climatized and designed to suit the needs of the modern man by creating an artificial world amids nature. The idea of the courtyard is to expose the dweller in a controlled way to the outdoors and to the surrounding nature by softening the division between indoors and outdoors. The aim is also to create a social and communal ambience with the communal buildings around the courtyard. The courtyard is the most important space of the holiday experience: It combines the forest nature, culture and the communal aspect of the project. |
| Abstract (fin): | Suunnitelma on yhteisöllinen ja luonnonläheinen majoituskonsepti Kuhmoon. Työ perustuu puurakentamisen professuurin kesän 2011 aikana järjestämään Metsähotellin ideakilpailuun tekemääni ehdotukseen. Työssä on jatkokehitetty yhtä neljästä kilpailuvaiheessa luonnostellusta majoitusrakennustypologiasta. Valittu typologia koostuu suuresta julkisesta keskusaukiosta, joka muodostuu neljän pihapiirin keskelle. Pihapiirit koostuvat yksityisistä majoitusrakennuksista ja yhteisistä kylpy-, oleskelu-, ja varastorakennuksista. Arkkitehtuurin pääteema on orgaanisen metsäluonnon ja ihmisen keinotekoisten majoitusrakennusten välinen kontrasti. Rakennuskokonaisuus on moduulipohjainen ja elementtirakenteinen geometrinen systeemi, jonka tilallinen järjestelmä on vuorovaikutuksessa metsän epäsäännöllisen puuston ja kasvillisuuden kanssa. Puiden satunnainen rytmi puhkoo rakennemoduulin toistuvan tahdin ja luo näin vaihtelevan tilakudelman. Kontrasti kuvaa kulttuurin ja luonnon vastakkainasettelua. Pihapiirien arkkitehtoniset elementit ovat katto, terassi ja majoitusyksiköt. Symbolisesti tärkeä ja kaiken alleen peittävä katto on sommitelman tärkein osa, joka yhdistää tilallisesti kaikki muut elementit toisiinsa luoden suojaansa yhtenäisen pihapiirin. Terassin rooli on mahdollistaa ihmisen kulku maastonmuodoista huolimatta ja säästää pintamaa kulutukselta. Majoitusyksiköt ovat ihmisen turvapaikka luonnolta ja luonnonvoimilta. Ilmastoidut, lämpöeristetyt ja modernin ihmisen tarpeille varustellut yksiköt muodostavat sisätilan, joka on ihmisen keinotekoinen maailma luonnon keskellä. Pihapiirin ideana on altistaa asukas hallitusti ja haluamassaan määrässä ulkoilmalle ja ympäröivälle luonnolle. Sen tarkoituksena on häivyttää sisätilan ja ulkotilan välistä rajaa. Pihapiirin päämääränä on myös luoda sosiaalinen ja yhteisöllinen tunnelma, sillä se yhdistää kaikki asukkaiden yhteiset toiminnot. Näin pihapiiri toimii lomakokemuksen tärkeimpänä tilana: siinä yhdistyvät metsäluonto, kulttuuri ja yhteisöllisyys. |
