Abstract (eng): | Fuel cells are seen as new greener way to produce energy. Fuel cells types vary and suitable cell type depends on the application. Computer modelling has become a commonplace and modelling is often used when developing systems before coming in to market. This diploma thesis was made at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland as part of FINSOFC project. The aim was to model existing 5 kWe solid oxide fuel cell demonstration unit and verify the model against the measurements. The focus of this thesis is in the implementation of the system model with Apros -process simulation software and tuning the SOFC-module to correspond to the actual 1 kWe stack installed in the system for the commissioning. The zero-dimensional SOFC-model in Apros is developed at VTT. To support the modelling describes the literature part the basis of fuel cell operation and computer modelling. The basic mathematics and physics of cell reactions that can be used in modelling a fuel cell are explained. Basis of auto thermal reforming is described as there is such reformer in the demonstration unit. The demonstration unit is presented briefly. Results of this thesis can be used when the SOFC-model is developed further. Model can be used as a tool when demonstration unit is developed further and model of reformer is implemented and verified. |
Abstract (fin): | Polttokennot nähdään uutena vihreämpänä tapana tuottaa energiaa. Aproksen nollaulotteinen SOFC-malli on tehty VTT:lla. |
