Abstract (eng): | Road markings are wearing and they have to be maintained often enough so that their performance is adequate for fluent traffic, traffic guidance, safety and comfortable driving. Maintenance as a form of repainting is done according to the road marking contracts and it's usually based on surveys of retro reflectivity and wear. The aim of the study was to assess the wear of road markings. According to specifications the wear class can be assessed manually by visual inspection or by using automation by continuously photographing road markings and then, by using image processing, determining wear of road markings from the pictures taken. At the moment visual assessment is more widely used method and there is only one approved equipment for measuring wear of road marking, Destia's TIKU. Another equipment is in development, Ramboll's RMT (Road Marking Tester). Reliability of the different methods was investigated by comparing different tests and methods during spring and autumn 2011 on hundreds of road sections especially chosen for this study. A wear class was assigned for one hundred meter long road sections and results were compared. Statistical analysis was performed using Wilcoxon signed test and Friedman test to study differences between distributions, using Kendall's rank-order correlation coefficient tau-b test for correlation and agreement of test results were tested with kappa and Randolph's kappa tests. In addition, methods to perform visual assessments and a procedure for measuring device approval were further developed. The results showed that the wear class assessed by visual inspectors was inspector dependent. The experience on visual inspectors did not guarantee better agreement. The results of the measuring devices were different. The TIKU measured higher wear classes than the visual inspectors and the RMT measured lower wear classes than the visual inspectors. A suggestion to improve visual assessment methodology and a procedure to approve the measuring devices is presented. |
Abstract (fin): | Tiemerkinnät kuuluvat ja niitä on uusittava riittävän usein, jotta ne säilyttävät tarkoituksensa liikenteen sujuvuuden, ohjauksen, turvallisuuden ja ajomukavuuden parantajana. Tiemerkintöjen uusinta perustuu Suomessa tiemerkintöjen palvelusopimusten mukaisesti yleensä kunto- ja paluuheijastavuusmittausten tuloksiin. Tässä tutkimuksessa perehdyttiin tiemerkintöjen kuntoarvon määrittämiseen. Kuntoarvoa voidaan arvioida silmämääräisesti tai mitata koneellisesti kuvaamalla tiemerkintää ja määrittämällä saaduista kuvista tiemerkinnän kuluneisuus kuvankäsittelyn avulla. Tällä hetkellä silmämääräinen arviointi on yleisempi tapa ja mittauksiin on olemassa vain yksi hyväksytty laite, Destian kehittämä TIKU, Lisäksi Ramboll on kehittämässä omaa mittalaitetta, RMT:tä (Road Marking Tester). Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin eri menetelmien tulosten eroja ja luotettavuutta suorittamalla koemittauksia ja arviointeja sadoilla tarkoitusta varten valituilla tiejaksoilla kevään ja syksyn 2011 aikana. Kuntoarvo määritettiin sadan metrin mittaisille jaksoille ja verrattiin eri menetelmillä saatuja tuloksia keskenään. Aineistolle tehtiin tilastollinen tarkastelu tutkimalla tulosten jakaumien eroja Wilcoxonin järjestyslukujen merkkitestillä ja Friedmanin testillä, korrelaatiota Kendallin järjestyskorrelaatiokeroin tau-b:llä ja yhtäpitävyyttä painotetulla kapalla ja Randophin kapalla. Lisäksi pyrittiin löytämään tapoja silmämääräisen arvioinnin kehittämiseksi ja tekemään ehdotus mittalaitteiden hyväksymismenetelmäksi. Tulokset osoittivat, että silmämääräisen arvioinnin tulokset riippuvat arvioijasta, eikä kokemus arvioinneissa takaa yhdenmukaisia arviointeja. Mittalaitteiden tulokset poikkesivat toisistaan ja silmämääräisestä arvioinnista. TIKU mittasi silmämääräistä arviointia korkeampia kuntoarvoja ja RMT silmämääräistä arviointia matalampia kuntoarvoja. Ehdotus silmämääräisen arvioinnin kehittämiseksi ja mittalaitteiden hyväksymismenetelmäksi on esitetty. |
