Reading digital theses in the closed network of the Aalto University Harald Herlin Learning Centre

You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): CDMA2000 (Code Division Multiple Access 2000) is the North American equivalent to the European third generation mobile telecommunication network UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System).
The core network evolution of CDMA2000 is moving towards layered architecture and the use of Internet Protocol (IP) for all traffic in the network.

Circuit-switched data and Fax calls are legacy service that needs to be supported in the Legacy Mobile Station Domain (LMSD) of the CDMA2000 core network.
The Interworking Function provides protocol conversion and interworking required to support these legacy data services, acting as a gateway between the CDMA2000 network and the Public Switched Telephone Network.

This thesis concentrates on the CDMA2000 core network and the data services it provides.
This thesis presents also four different proposals for realizing the interworking functionality in the layered architecture based LMSD of the CDMA2000 core network.
The proposals are analysed based on defined criteria and one proposal is chosen for recommendation.
This thesis presents only architectural level solutions for realizing the interworking functionality.
Abstract (fin): CDMA2000 (Code Division Multiple Access 2000) on Pohjois-Amerikan vastine eurooppalaiselle kolmannen sukupolven matkapuhelinverkolle UMTS:lle (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System).
CDMA2000-järjestelmän runkoverkko on siirtymässä kerrokselliseen arkkitehtuuriin sekä tulee ottamaan Internet Protokollan (IP) kaiken liikennöinnin perustaksi.

Piirikytkentäiset datapalvelut sekä telefaksi ovat aiemmista verkoista periytyviä toiminnallisuuksia, joita on tuettava kerrokselliseen arkkitehtuuriin perustuvassa CDMA2000-runkoverkossa vanhojen päätelaitteiden käyttäjille.
IWF-verkkomuunnin muuntaa protokollia sekä tarjoaa tarvittavan yhteistyöskentelyn, jotta periytyviä toiminnallisuuksia voidaan tukea.
IWF-verkkomuunnin toimii yhdyskäytävänä CDMA2000-runkoverkon ja perinteisen puhelinverkon välillä.
