Reading digital theses in the closed network of the Aalto University Harald Herlin Learning Centre

In the closed network of Learning Centre you can read digital and digitized theses not available in the open network.

You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng):Master's thesis will introduce architectures, which can be applied to Ad Hoc networks.
By collaboration of existing protocols reliable solution alternatives can be created in order to offer global services to users of Ad Hoc networks.

An Ad Hoc network has usually wireless links and its topology is dynamic.
Internal datagram forwarding requires an efficient routing protocol and IP addressing.
The IP addressing can be arranged automatically by IETF's auto-configuration protocols.
For global IPv4 addressing some stateful elements, like DHCP, are needed.
When using IPv6 protocol, global connectivity is feasible to be implemented by using only stateless·elements, like stateless auto-configuration, with router advertisements.
Mobile IP makes it possible to allow node or network mobility.

Internal services in Ad Hoc networks can be discovered by mDNS protocol.
Global services can be found by some directory services - for example by Jini, SLPv2 or DNS-SD.
Database services in the core can be HTTP based, plain shared disk access or Java based Jini services.
HTTP services can be implemented by various scripting languages, some to mention PHP.
Taking a global VoIP call or sending instant messages is possible from Ad Hoc networks, too.
Abstract (fin): Diplomityö esittelee arkkitehtuuriratkaisuja, joita voidaan soveltaa Ad Hoc -tietoverkoissa.
Valmiita protokollia yhteen sovittamalla voidaan luoda luotettavia ratkaisuvaihtoehtoja globaalien palveluiden tarjoamiseen Ad Hoc-verkon käyttäjille.

Ad Hoc -verkko on usein langaton ja sen topologia on dynaaminen.
Sisäinen datagrammiliikenne vaatii tehokkaan Ad Hoc -reititysprotokollan ja IP-osoitteistuksen.
Verkon sisäinen osoitteistus voidaan suorittaa automaattisesti IETF:n autokonfigurointitekniikoilla.
Globaalin osoitteistuksen saavuttamiseksi tarvitaan IPv4-protokollaa käytettäessä tilallisia elementtejä kuten DHCP-palvelimia.
IPv6:a käytettäessä globaali yhteydellisyys voidaan toteuttaa pelkillä tilattomilla elementeillä reititinmainostusten avulla.
Mobile IP mahdollistaa päätelaitteen tai verkon vapaan liikkumisen.

Ad Hoc-verkon sisäiset palvelut voidaan paikantaa mDNS-protokollalla.

Runkoverkossa olevat tietokantapalvelut voivat olla http-pohjaisia, jaettuja levyresursseja tai esimerkiksi Java-pohjaisia Jini-palveluita.
HTTP-palveluita voidaan toteuttaa erilaisilla kielillä kuten PHP:lla.
Globaali VoIP -palvelu ja pikaviestimine on myös mahdollista Ad Hoc-verkoista.
