| Abstract (eng): | This master's thesis presents a development plan for the northern borderlands of the city Seinäjoki as well as for the nationwide dignified landscape region of Ilmajoki Alajoki area. The intention of this thesis is to evoke discussion about the role of the borderlands, and furthermore inspire the more precise planning of the area. The work is divided into two parts. The first part of the work introduces the landscape qualities, townscape, historical developments and current planning status of the wider Seinäjoki region. The second part of the thesis concentrates on the challenges of the selected borderland areas of the city. The design consists of the development plan of fields in Seinäjoki river valley and the concept plan for the borderlands between the city and rural areas. The plan presents functional and visual solutions to better connect the outskirts of the city with the nationwide dignified landscape region. The more detailed pains are introduced for three Gases. The first case is Itikanmäki, a backyard like entrance area of the city. The second case is a residential park caught between industrial areas of Kivisaari. The third and last case is large animal production facility situated in the dignified landscape region. The designs are illustrated with various perspective views of each case. The starting point of the plan has been the characteristics of the Southern Ostrobothnian landscape: linearity, horizontality and large scale. In selecting the plants, local vegetation that is suitable for clay rich terrain is emphasized. Due to globalization and increased commercialism, the outskirts of the cities around the world look alike. The potential for the development of outskirts are found in the elements that are unique and bound into the place, landscape, culture and local ecology. |
| Abstract (fin): | Työn aiheena ovat Seinäjoen kaupungin pohjoisreunan alueet sekä kaupungin reunaan rajoittuva Ilmajoen Alajoen valtakunnallisesti arvokas maisema-alue. Työn tarkoituksena on herättää keskustelua ja toimia jatkotyön pohjana Seinäjokilaakson sekä siihen rajautuvan kaupungin reunan kehittämisessä ja suunnittelussa. Työ on jaettu tarkastelu- ja suunnittelualueisiin. Työn alussa käsitellään laajasti tarkastelualueen maisemaa ja kaupunkikuvaa, historiaa sekä suunnittelutilannetta. Toisessa osassa pureudutaan suunnittelualueen haasteisiin. Varsinainen suunnitelma sisältää peltolakeuden kehittämissuunnitelman sekä reuna-alueiden ideasuunnitelman. Suunnitelmassa on etsitty toiminnallisia ja maisemallisia ratkaisuja kaupungin reuna-alueen ja arvokkaan maisema-alueen yhteensovittamiseen. Itikanmäen takapihamainen sisääntuloalue, Kivisaaren tuotantomaiseman ja teollisuusalueen välinen asuinalueen puisto sekä arvokkaalle maisema- ja tulva-alueelle sijoittuva eläintalouden suuryksikkö on esitetty tarkemmassa mittakaavassa. Suunnitelmaa havainnollistavat useat perspektiivikuvat. Suunnitelman lähtökohtana ovat olleet Etelä-Pohjanmaan maiseman ominaispiirteet: lineaansuus, horisontaalisuus ja suuri mittakaava. Kasvivalinnoissa korostavat savilaaksojen luontaiset lajit. Teknistyvät, globalisaation ja kaupallisuuden pyörryttämät reuna-alueet näyttävät samalta kaikkialla. Kehityspotentiaali on uniikeissa ja paikkaan sidotuissa tekijöissä: maisemassa, kulttuurissa ja ekologiassa. |
