Abstract (eng): | Reuse of software in the form of software product lines is one of the most promising ways to improve the efficiency of software engineering. The product-line approach has been found to be suitable not only for companies producing commercial software but also for pure consultancies where the business is based on project contracts instead of producing software for public market. In this work, the suitability of the product-line approach is examined in a small consultancy that has a lot of experience in producing diary systems for governmental organizations. The work is based on a framework prototype, designed for participating to a bid contest that later on evolved into a full-blown software product line. The thesis consists of a cross-section to the central techniques of the product line and the theoretical background thereof. In particular, the product-line architecture, object-oriented frameworks and their extension models, and object-relational mapping through a persistence layer are examined. Finally, the project is evaluated from organizational and technical points of view. |
