Abstract (eng): A new generation of mobile phones and networks has set ground to new kinds of services.
Especially those that are popular in the Internet are seen as potentially profitable services.
One of these is streaming real-time content, video and audio, to mobile users.

Content streaming to new mobile terminals provides a business opportunity to companies that provide mobile entertainment solutions.
This Thesis was made to Akumiitti, a mobile outsourcing company that wanted to prototype a content streaming service for third generation mobiles.

In this Thesis, a component based design for a media server capable of realising a streaming service is created and prototyped.
The service is specified by an EU project, which was initiated to research new mobile networks that provide services of the Internet.
The main technical aspect was to implement the signalling scenarios that enable the streaming session to be first initiated and later terminated between the end user and the media server.

To support the signalling with SIP, a SIP User Agent was implemented to control the media server.
Other components of the system were responsible for the streaming of the content, fetching the content from the Internet and one component was controlling and managing the components.
Design of the interfaces was also part of this work.

The result was a functioning media server that could start the streaming sessions according to the SIP signalling.
The functionality was successfully tested m the network dedicated for testing this service.
Abstract (fin): Uuden sukupolven matkapuhelinten ja matkapuhelinverkkojen käytön yleistyminen on luonut pohjaa uusille palveluille.
Internetissä suositut palvelut nähdään tuottavina palveluina.
Yksi tällainen palvelu on tosiaikaisen sisällön, erityisesti äänen ja videokuvan, suoratoisto.

Sisällön suoratoisto uuden sukupolven matkapuhelimiin antaa mobiiliviihteen yrityksille uuden tavan tarjota asiakkailleen uudenlaisia palveluja.

Käytännön osassa toteutettiin kyseiseen palvelumalliin soveltuva signalointikomponentti, jolla pystyttiin hallitsemaan suoratoistoa.

Signalointiprotokollana käytettiin SIP-protokollaa, jonka avulla hallittiin suoratoistopalvelinta.
