Reading digital theses in the closed network of the Aalto University Harald Herlin Learning Centre

In the closed network of Learning Centre you can read digital and digitized theses not available in the open network.

You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): The purpose of this masters' thesis is to study how leadership and organizational development influence the implementation of a business plan of a company operating on the field of digital media.

The target company on this master's thesis was Riot Entertainment Ltd, founded in spring 2000 and declared bankrupt in spring 2002.

The scientific framework applied was the intelligent organization which is the obvious direction of learning and development for a business that is solely based on the competence of its personnel.

The material has been collected through participating observation that is by working personally for the company during its entire operating period.
The management team has also been interviewed for this study.

As a result of this study it can be stated that first-class leadership and organization development skills are one of the most important requirements for remaining competitive, and the lack of either can drive the company out of business, as this case Riot-E proved.
Abstract (fin): Tämän diplomityön tarkoituksena on tutkia, kuinka johtaminen ja organisaation kehittäminen vaikuttavat yrityksen liiketoimintasuunnitelman toteutumiseen digitaalisen median liiketoiminta-alueella.

Tarkastelun kohteeksi valittiin vuonna 2000 keväällä perustettu Riot Entertainment Ltd, joka ajautui konkurssiin keväällä 2002.

Viitekehykseksi valikoitui älykkään organisaation malli, sillä täysin henkilöstönsä varassa olevan yrityksen ainoa todellinen kehittämiskohde on sen henkilöstön osaaminen, jolloin oppiminen ja kehittyminen kohti älykästä organisaatiota on luonteva päämäärä.

Aineisto on pääosin kerätty osallistuvan havainnoinnin avulla, siis työskentelemällä henkilökohtaisesti yrityksen palveluksessa koko sen elinkaaren ajan.
Lisäksi on haastateltu yrityksen johtoryhmän jäseniä.

Tutkimuksen tuloksena voitiin todeta, että laadukas johtaminen ja organisaation kehittämistaidot ovat digitaalisen median liiketoiminnassa yksi tärkeimmistä kilpailuedellytyksistä, ja niiden puute voi johtaa yrityksen konkurssiin, niin kuin Riot-E:n tapauksessa osaltaan kävi.
