Abstract (eng): | Life cycle assessment was done to the woodwork of a Puustelli 100 kitchen. Wooden parts include doors, fronts and tops. Kitchen types used in this thesis were kitchen with an oak top and a kitchen with a heat treated birch top. The environmental impacts to be examined were climate change and depletion of natural resources. The aim was to create a comparison basis to the development of a new eco-kitchen. The aim was also to examine the production processes and find phases to be improved. In addition, examination of alternative courses of action was taken. Carbon footprints of sawn timber, doors and fronts and wooden tops were calculated. The inventory data was collected either from the industry or from databases. The material and energy inputs and outputs of birch sawn timber and glue laminated board were collected from the Koskisen koivutuoteteollisuus Hirvensalmi mill. Data for door, fronts and finishing of tops was collected from Puustelli's Harjavalta mill. Data, for the products that were purchased, was collected from literature and databases. Calculation was carried out with Gabi- software. Results of the impact assessment were received straight from the program. The carbon footprint of the kitchen with birch top is smaller. Global warming potential of kitchen with birch top is 211,4 kg CO2 -equivalent. For kitchen with oak top GWP is 235,8 kg CO2 -equivalent. Manufacturing of doors and fronts form the largest share of carbon footprint in both cases, 56 percent of the carbon footprint of manufacturing of doors and fronts is formed by surface treatment. New options for surface treatment should be identified in development process of the new eco-kitchen. The alternative courses of action can reduce the carbon footprint of the kitchen. The transport distance of purchased products should be reduced. Changing the type of energy production to the energy production from renewable resources would reduce the carbon footprint significantly. |
Abstract (fin): | Työssä laskettiin elinkaariarvio Puustellin keittiö 100:n puuosille. Laskenta suoritettiin Gabi- ohjelmistolla. Vaikutusarvioinnin tulokset saatiin suoraan ohjelmasta. Koivutasoisen keittiön hiilijalanjälki on pienempi kuin tammitasoisen keittiön.. Koivutasoisen keittiön ilmastonlämpenemispotentiaali on 211,4 kg CO2 -ekvivalenttia. Tammitasoisen keittiön ilmastonlämpenemispotentiaali on 235,8 kg CO2 -ekvivalenttia. Kummankin keittiön kohdalla suurimman osuuden hiilijalanjälkeen muodostivat ovien ja etusarjojen valmistus. Ovien ja etusarjojen valmistuksessa hiilijalanjäljestä 56 prosenttia syntyi pintakäsittelystä. Uuden ekokeittiön kehittelyssä tulisi kartoittaa vaihtoehtoja pintakäsittelylle. Vaihtoehtoisilla toimintatavoilla voidaan myös pienentää tulevan ekokeittiön hiilijalanjälkeä. Ostotuotteiden kuljetusmatkojen lyhentäminen vaikuttaa positiivisesti hiilijalanjälkeen. Energian tuotantotapojen muuttaminen uusiutuvia energialähteitä käyttäväksi pienentäisi myös huomattavasti hiilijalanjälkeä. |
