Abstract (eng): The goal of this master's thesis was to tune and enable Metso PQV quality control system at the M-real Äänekoski folding boxboard machine.
The PQV system consists of a transmission light beam for inspection of the board base, a reflecting light beam for inspection of the board surface and web break surveillance system.
The classification of the defects of board web was the essential task in this thesis.
An additional goal for the thesis was to form a general view of the defects at the Äänekoski board machine and consider how customer complains and how reel waste could be reduced with the help of the new web inspection system.

The tuning of the web inspection system was started by making a preliminary study about the defects occurring at the board machine.
The preliminary study was carried out by examining the statistics of customer complaints, reel waste and web breaks.
Most significant defects classes were edge cracks, blade scratches, coating streaks, indents, wrinkles, foreign particles, dark dirt spots and various coating disturbances.
Tuning was focused on these defect classes.
The Board web defects were monitored for 5 months and based on this the defect classification for web inspection system was formed.
Furthermore precise defect statistics were gathered from the period of 20 days.
Based on these statistics the general view of the Äänekoski board web defects was generated.

Interpretation and exploitation of the information produced by web inspection system are mostly responsibilities of machine operators.
At Äänekoski operators can independently exploit the web inspection system in quality control because the web inspection system is configured for the needs of production.
This will decrease the amount of customer complains at the Äänekoski board machine in long term.
Abstract (fin): Diplomityön tavoitteena oli virittää ja ottaa käyttöön M-real Äänekosken kartonkikoneelle hankittu Metso PQV laaduntarkkailujärjestelmä, joka koostuu kartongin runkoa kuvaavasta läpivalopalkista, kartongin pintaa kuvaavasta vinovalopalkista sekä radanvalvontajärjestelmästä.

Kartonkiradan vikoja seurattiin PQV-järjestelmän avulla noin 5 kuukauden ajan.
Tämän seurannan pohjalta muodostettiin vianilmaisimen vikaluokittelu.
Lisäksi vianilmaisimen havaitsemat viat tilastoitiin tarkasti 20 vuorokauden ajalta, minkä perusteella muodostettiin kokonaiskuva Äänekosken kartonkiradan vioista.

Vianilmaisimen tuottaman tiedon tulkinta ja hyödyntäminen on pääosin tuotannon operaattoreiden vastuulla.
Äänekoskella operaattorit pystyvät hyödyntämään vianilmaisinta itsenäisesti laadun seurannassa, koska vianilmaisin on viritetty vastaamaan tuotannon tarpeita.
Tämä tulee vähentämään asiakasvalitusten määrää Äänekoskella pitkällä aikavälillä.
