Reading digital theses in the closed network of the Aalto University Harald Herlin Learning Centre

You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): The way of work in knowledge intensive organizations is at a transitional period.
ICT enabled mobility, increasing network structures, and different forms of flexibility have changed the concept of the workplace.
Workplace today is the combination of physical, virtual and social environments, which requires functional communication between responsible departments such as Corporate Real Estate (CRE), Human Resources (HR) and Information Technology (IT).

The objective of this research is to understand how the New Ways of Working principles affect the workplace and its performance measurement.
Based on the research findings, requirements and modifications to a Corporate Real Estate Management Software could be defined.
Although the workplace consists of much more than the physical environment, the focus on the framework of this research is on the way of work and how it affects space use.
Also a review of CREM performance measurement tools and an analysis on their applicability for the Alternative Workplace is made.

The method used was an interview study.
In the empirical section of the research a reporting template of a space utilization study was introduced and feedback on space utilization's importance for measuring CREM performance was collected through thematic interviews.
Additionally, information was collected on drivers that influence the workplace development and which factors have positive/negative effects on a workplace change project Space utilization study is one of the most important tools for measuring workplace success.
It provides information on how efficiently the space is used and whether there is an adequate mix of workstations and support spaces.
However, space utilization figures mainly indicate the success of the physical environment.
Other measures dealing with workplace performance, such as productivity measurement, should be further developed.
Measures dealing with intellectual capital, virtual working environments and workplace satisfaction should be examined and their link to the core strategy of the organization should be established.
Abstract (fin): Työn teon tavat tietointensiivisissä organisaatioissa ovat muutosvaiheessa.
Tieto- ja viestintäteknologian mahdollistama liikkuvuus, lisääntyvä verkostoituminen, sekä joustavuuden eri muodot ovat muuttaneet työympäristön käsitettä.
Tämän päivän työpaikka koostuu fyysisestä, sosiaalisesta ja virtuaalisesta ympäristöstä, joka edellyttää sujuvaa kommunikaatiota toimitilajohtamisen, henkilöstöhallinnon ja informaatioteknologian yksiköiden välillä.

Tämän tutkimuksen tavoite oli ymmärtää, millä tavoin uudet työn tekemisen tavat vaikuttavat työympäristöön ja sen toimintakyvyn mittaamiseen.
Tutkimuksen tuloksien perusteella muuttuneen työympäristön vaatimukset ja muutokset toimitilajohtamisen ohjelmistoon voidaan määrittää.
Tässä tutkimuksessa keskityttiin tarkastelemaan työn teon tapoja, sekä niiden vaikutusta tilankäyttöön.
Lisäksi työssä perehdyttiin toimitilajohtamisen suorituskyvyn mittauksen työkaluihin ja niiden soveltuvuuteen vaihtoehtoisen työympäristön analysoitiin.

Tutkimusmenetelmänä käytettiin haastattelututkimusta.
Tutkimuksen empiirinen aineisto kerättiin haastatteluin, joissa esitettiin käyttöastelaskennan raporttimalli.
Teemahaastatteluiden avulla tutkittiin käyttöastelaskennan merkityksellisyyttä eräänä toimitilajohtamisen mittarina.
Työssä kerättiin myös tietoa työympäristön kehittämisen liikkeellepanevista tekijöistä sekä tarkasteltiin positiivisia/negatiivisia vaikuttimia työympäristön muutosprojektin toteuttamisessa.
Käyttöastelaskenta on yksi merkittävimmistä työkaluista työympäristön suorituskyvyn mittaamiseen.
Se tuottaa tietoa tilan käytön tehokkuudesta ja siitä. onko työpisteitä ja tukitiloja riittävästi käytössä.
Käyttöastelaskennasta saatavat tulokset indikoivat pääsiassa fyysisen työympäristön toimivuutta, joten tärkeää olisi kehittää mittareita, joilla voidaan todentaa myös esimerkiksi tuottavuuden muutosta.
Aineettoman pääoman, virtuaalisen työympäristön sekä työtyytyväisyyden mittausta tulisi tutkia ja muodostaa yhteys organisaation ydinstrategiaan.
