Abstract (eng):The thesis presents a usability and utility assessment of a service for streaming of e-books in a school environment.
The evaluated service is an implementation of the Swedish concept ElibU that offers a licensing model for e-books specifically for school use.

For the investigation, a comprehensive survey was conducted among users, including a measurement on the System Usability Scale.
Students who responded to the survey were grouped according to their interest in reading or their reading motivation according to the measures from from the international PIRLS and PISA studies.
The survey was supplemented by ten classroom observations where the teacher was also interviewed and the students answered a quick survey of the system's usability.

The results show that the implemented service on the whole is easy to use.
The weakest link is the browser-based application that is used for reading e-books in the service.
Teachers perceive the service as a good complement in the school environment, but they do not believe that e-books can replace paper books altogether.
According to the survey, motivated students prefer paper books, which supports this notion.

The greatest improvements in the service could be achieved by improving the browser-based application with a larger buffer memory so that reading can be uninterrupted on a slow connection.
Also, license management and logins need to be improved, where solutions for single sign-on would give the biggest benefits.
Other properties that could be developed are sharing of bookcases and bookmarks - tools that would make it easier for teachers to hand out reading assignments.

However, the biggest obstacle to wider use of the service in a school environment is the lack of appropriate equipment in sufficient quantity.
