Abstract (eng): The aim of the study was to examine and improve a brown stock washing result and efficiency continuously at a certain pulp mill.
It was done by utilizing real-time measurement devices and a monitoring system created for the purpose.

The concentration of black liquor can be determined by using a refractometer, which measures the refractive index of process solution.
The dissolved solid contents of wash filtrate fractions in the brown stock washing line were measured by using 12 continuous refractometers.

The amount of washing loss had a clear influence on the performance of oxygen delignification, which was observed from the oxygen delignification's kappa reduction, chemical consumption and reactor's temperature.

The refractometers and created monitoring system enabled the continuous evaluation of a washing result.
