Abstract (eng): | This thesis explores the ecosystem constituted by smart cities, smart grids, distributed generation and electric mobility. Through literature review, a conceptual model of the ecosystem is built and denoted as the smart city ecosystem. The ecosystem model incorporates three layers: the business layer, the agent society layer and the physical network layer. The business layer entails the services of a smart city, the agent society layer is composed of the involved organizations and the physical network layer includes the technological infrastructures required in a smart city. The model was utilized to compare two smart cities: Amsterdam and Songdo. The comparison indicates that the ecosystem in Amsterdam is based on regional projects and experiments, whereas the ecosystem in Songdo is being built from scratch. To summarize, the ecosystem in Amsterdam is focused on energy management, sustainability, electric transportation and smart governance with a wide variety of participating organizations, while the ecosystem in Songdo is focused on ubiquitous technology with a narrower range of participating organizations. Amsterdam was deemed to be more relevant as regards the development of Helsinki. Lastly, this thesis studies how a smart city ecosystem could be developed in Helsinki. An expert panel was utilized for this part of the thesis, as well as the results from the comparison of Amsterdam and Songdo. According to the study, there could be a smart city ecosystem based upon regional projects in Helsinki. Potential projects are suggested based on the expert panel as well as the findings from the comparison between Amsterdam and Songdo. |
Abstract (fin): | Tämä diplomityö tutkii älykkäiden kaupunkien, älykkäiden sähköverkkojen, hajautetun energiantuotannon ja sähköisen liikenteen muodostamaa ekosysteemiä. |
