Abstract (eng): | Lean manufacturing is a production practice. Its goal is to make more with less; increase quality, reduce spent resources and seek constant improvement. As a development, Lean manufacturing systems have emerged. Manufacturing execution systems (MES) are computerized automation systems controlling the execution of production. They are an integrating layer between enterprise business planning activities and process control. Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) are manufacturing systems characterized by inherent flexibility. They adapt to changes and are capable of producing multiple different products on the same equipment. They normally consist of four types of components: work machines, material handling systems, central control computers and software. In this thesis, the concept of a Lean MES is used. Lean MES includes a MES and an FMS and is capable of Lean manufacturing. To operate in a Lean fashion, a system may need novel technology. In this thesis, the applicability of the OPC UA and ISA-95 standards and related technologies for Lean MES are studied. OPC UA is a communication standard and ISA-95 is an international standard for interface development. The properties of OPC UA and ISA-95 were compared to requirements discovered from literature to study their applicability to Lean MES. OPC UA was found to fit into communications between cell controllers and the Lean MES and cell controllers and equipment such as PLCs in data gathering, SCADA and control applications. ISA-95 was found to be useful as a design aid in functional and database design, and possibly as a communication method between ERP and MES. |
Abstract (fin): | Lean on teollisuudessa jalansijaa saavuttanut tuotantotapa. Joustava konepajatuontanto (FMS) on suuren joustavuuden määrittelemää tuotantoa. |
