Abstract (eng): The project I took part of is a feasibility study of a direct conversion low-intermediate frequency short range radio system.
The system is strongly characterised by its firmware-based, variable modulation.
The most complex modulation type used is eight-phase-shift-keying, which requires that the signal is handled linearly in the radio.
The handling of complex signals at the non-zero baseband frequency requires some unconventional thinking in the design, with the complex filter as the best example.
My task was to build a working hardware platform for the system to run on.

The hardware part is dominated by the radio of discrete components, but has some support functions for the software-running part - the logic circuit - as well.
The demand for good opportunities for testing, evaluating and altering the different blocks emphasized a breadboard design.

The work consisted of following parts: analysing the radio system proposition and choosing the suitable components, the test board design, and block and system tests with the breadboard evaluation.
Abstract (fin): Tämä työ on osa hanketta, jossa selvitettiin mahdollisuutta toteuttaa eräs lyhyen kantaman radiojärjestelmä siten, että kantotaajuus muunnetaan analogiaosassa suoraan niin matalalle välitaajuudelle, että se voidaan käsitellä digitaaliosassa sellaisenaan.

Laitteistoalustan tärkein osa on erilliskomponenteista rakennettu radio.
