Abstract (eng): Multimodal medical imaging means acquiring medical images of multiple modalities, such as positron emission tomography (PET) and X-ray computed tomography (CT), during the same measurement.
These modalities often have complementary roles in diagnosis.
For example, CT images show the anatomical structure, while PET images are used for studying the metabolism of the patient.
It is often beneficial to combine images of multiple modalities into a fusion image where the functional image is represented using a pseudocolor scale, so that these complementary features can be studied simultaneously.

In this thesis, an implementation of an environment for viewing fused medical images was implemented.
The environment was integrated into an existing medical image viewer NeaView Radiology, developed by Neagen Oy.

The resulting implementation consists of a small C++ library that can be used to easily construct different colour scales, an image fusion pipeline, and a fusion viewing mode that provides a user interface for viewing the fused medical volumes.
While not ready for commercial use, the viewing mode is mature enough for wider testing.
In addition, suggestions are given for improving the architecture of the application.
Abstract (fin): Multimodaalisella kuvantamisella tarkoitetaan kohteen kuvantamista usealla eri modaliteetilla, kuten tietokonetomografialla (TT) ja positroniemissiotomografialla (PET), saman mittauksen aikana.
On usein hyödyllistä yhdistää eri modaliteetein otettuja kuvia yhdistelmäkuvaksi, jossa aineenvaihduntakuva on esitetty väriskaalan avulla.
