You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): In the past couple of years, the number of mobile apps and mobile users has been increasing rapidly.
This fact has been noted by organizations in various different industries.
Increasingly, organizations in various different industries have been publishing mobile apps to better service their customers.
Therefore, the objective of this study is to get a better understanding how organizations in Finland are utilizing mobile apps in their business.
The study focuses on mobile apps that are beyond conventional content and software business.
In addition, we want to find out what is the status between the mobile platforms in Finland.

To accomplish this, we conducted a multiple case study.
Our data collection included mobile apps from 50 largest organizations in Finland, in which six of them were analysed in a more detailed manner as examples.
In addition, we conducted a cross-case analysis that included all the 50 organizations to discover interesting phenomenon related to mobile apps in Finland.

Our study introduced criteria for mapping mobile apps into the business model canvas to explore how the mobile apps fit into the business models of organizations.
We found out that mobile apps fit into the various building blocks of the business model canvas depending on the type of the business model.
In addition, we discovered that the market share of mobile platforms in Finland differs from the mobile platform share of the largest organizations in Finland.
Abstract (fin): Viime vuosina mobiilisovel1usten ja niiden käyttäjien määrät ovat kasvaneet nopeasti.
Tämä on huomattu myös eri toimialojen organisaatioissa, jotka ovat yhä enemmissä määrin julkaisseet mobiilisovelluksia palvellakseen paremmin asiakkaitaan.
Siitä johtuen tämän tutkielman tavoitteena on saada parempi ymmärrys kuinka organisaatiot käyttävät hyväkseen mobiilisovelluksia liiketoiminnassaan.
Tutkielmassa keskitymme mobiilisovelluksiin, jotka ovat perinteisen sisällön ja ohjelmistoliiketoiminnan ulkopuolella.
Lisäksi haluamme selvittää mobiilialustojen tilanteesta Suomessa.

Tämän saavuttaaksemme suoritimme usean tapauksen tutkimuksen.
Tietokokoelmaamme kuului Suomen 50 suurimman organisaation mobiilisovellukset, joista kuutta analysoimme tarkemmin.
Lisäksi suoritimme tapauksia vertailevan analyysin, joka sisälsi kaikki 50 yritystä löytääksemme kiinnostavia ilmiötä mobiilisovelluksista Suomessa.

Tutkielman tuloksena kehitettiin kriteeristö, jonka avulla pystytään analysoimaan mobiilisovellusten vaikutusta liiketoimintamalleihin liiketoiminta -lakanan avulla.
Tutkimuksessa havaittiin, että mobiilisovelluksilla pystytään tukemaan liiketoimintamallin eri osa-alueita riippuen liiketoimintamallin tyypistä.
Lisäksi tutkimuksessa huomattiin, että mobiilialustojen markkinaosuudet Suomessa eroavat Suomen suurimpien yritysten mobiilialustojen osuuksista.
