Abstract (eng):The objective of this Thesis is to study what are the main functions of the Engineering Change Management of an Enterprise Resource Planning system and to find the possibility to employ them in managing product master data change.
The target is to learn new method to improve controlling engineering changes effectively and efficiently.

Changes and modifications in forms, fits, material, dimensions, documents, functions are ultimately reflected in the products and manufacturing processes.
These are usually referred as Engineering Changes.
The majority of companies apply formal approaches to managing ECs.
Besides official forms and meetings, series activities to request, approve, notify and record changes, various strategies and techniques, and different computer supports are included in change processes.
Communication with all relevant parties and working toward consensus to identify the scope of impact are keys to improve ECM effectively.
A special method characteristic design and product levels is used to recognize activities within the process and the degree of involvement of individual participants.
Key factors such as CE methods, process definition, information system, communication and organization are used as a tool for optimizing the EC process.

The parameter approach is based upon recent work in collaborative engineering, which uses elementary engineering decisions, captured as parameters, to drive the collaboration.
Parameter network resulted from product design can be used to support the intelligent ECM process easily since it captured relationships between parameters, products and persons.
Despite their obvious advantages and availability, computer aided ECM systems have not been widely used in practice.
A web-based ECM system is able to provide better information sharing, simultaneous data access and processing and more prompt communication and feedback.
The amount of paperwork and the throughput time of managing ECs are significantly reduced while the effectiveness and the efficiency are substantially improved.

In ERP system standard validity type for changes to be validity is valid-from time validity.
Parameter effectivity must be employed instead of time validity if retrieving previous VC setting required.
Problem is parameter effectivity method cannot cover two main master data changes: object dependency and configuration profile.
Other issue related is latest parameter value reminding when create change master record using parameter effectivity type.
Entering parameter value during sales order creation for those components have been changed using parameter effectivity type change master record is also a problem.
Proposal is first to clarify whether parameter effectivity need to make the change.
Version control method has to be used for object dependence and configuration profile if their previous settings are need after change.
The latest parameter value can be set default during sales order creation.
Also it should be maintained in material master data to keep record what is the latest value.
