Abstract (eng): In this thesis a system dynamics model for the capacity of a web application utilizing multi-layer architecture was implemented.
Methods for incorporating modelling and simulations as part of the web application life cycle were also presented.
The aim of integrating modelling and simulations into the life cycle is to be able to take into consideration the effects of various scenarios and architectural choices already in the early stages of the life cycle of the application.
Finally the implemented model was used in simulations where the modelled web application was simulated to be under abnormal load.

The method used in the modelling and simulations is based on system dynamics which makes it possible to incorporate numeric data, qualitative information and expert knowledge into the model.
System dynamics modelling and simulation is especially well suited for performance analysis of application architectures and evaluating long term effects of architectural choices because it can take into consideration the internal structure of the system and its internal dependencies.
The purpose of the implemented model is to provide a holistic view of the functionality of the system, its internal processes and the dependencies between them.
Abstract (fin): Työssä toteutettiin systeemidynaaminen ennustemalli kerrosarkkitehtuuria noudattavan web-sovelluksen kapasiteetille.
