You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): A population balance based model was developed to describe the depolymerisation reactions of hemicelluloses taking place in hot water extraction conditions.
Kinetics of the cleavage of glycosidic bonds in hemicellulose was studied and two scission mechanisms were tested.

The literature part of this work consisted of exploring the phenomena that need to be taken into account when hot water extraction is modelled.
The previous kinetic studies were reviewed and the reactions taking place were identified.
The modelling of depolymerisation was studied to get an overview on the topic.
Mass transfer and thermodynamic aspects were also considered.

In the applied part, kinetic parameters for the two scission mechanisms were optimized for the depolymerisation of galactoglucomannan.
The effect of hydrogen ion concentration on the scission rate was also studied.
The experimental data for galactoglucomannan reactions was received from Åbo Akademi.
The obtained kinetic parameters were compared against the acid hydrolysis data of disaccharides.
Abstract (fin): Työssä kehitettiin populaatiotaseisiin perustuva menetelmä hemiselluloosapolymeerin pilkkoutumisen mallintamiseen kuumavesiuuttoprosessin olosuhteissa.
Glykosidisidoksen katkeamisen kinetiikkaa tutkittiin Ja kahta polymeeriketjun pilkkoutumismekanismia testattiin.

Työn kirjallisuusosassa tutkittiin ilmiöitä, jotka tulee huomioida kuumavesiuuton mallintamisessa.
Aikaisempia kineetiikkatutkimuksia tarkastelemalla tunnistettiin oleelliset prosessiin liittyvät reaktiot.
Polymeeriketjun hajoamisen mallintamiseen luotiin yleiskatsaus ja myös prosessin aineensiirtoa ja termodynamiikkaa tutkittiin.

Työn soveltavassa osassa määritettiin galaktoglukomannaanin pilkkoutumisen kinetiikkaparametrit kummallekin polymeeriketjun pilkkoutumismekanismille.
Myös vetyionikonsentraation vaikutusta pilkkoutumisnopeuteen tutkittiin.
Kokeelliset tulokset galaktoglukomannaanin reaktioille saatiin Abo Akademista.
Määritettyjä kinetiikkaparametreja verrattiin kirjallisuudesta löydettyihin disakkaridien happohydrolyysiparametreihin.
