Abstract (eng): | Service discovery frameworks provide a uniform interface for different networked devices to interact with each other. However, most of the service discovery frameworks, especially Universal Plug and Play, do not permit different home networks to share their devices with each other. In this master thesis, we propose a solution to this using proxy software called H-box that bridges different UPnP-based networks using standardized Extensible Messaging and Presence, Host Identity Protocol and Teredo protocols. Our solution can be considered as a hybrid approach because it utilizes a centralized XMPP network for registering, locating and pairing different UPnP-based home networks, while the media streaming is based on the Peer-to-Peer paradigm in order to support scalability and improved user privacy. We then show the performance of the implemented prototype on Raspberry Pi hardware. Finally, we draw conclusions and discuss what future work remains to be done. |
