| Abstract: | In 1992 there were some 17 million pets, with more than half of Dutch households owning one or more pets. The number of pets continues to increase, but the growth rate in the cat population is higher than in the dog population. Expanding sales of prepared pet foods have been underpinned by a trend away from feeding pets household scraps and fresh meat and fish. There has been a significant change of attitudes as dogs and cats are increasingly considered as members of the family among owners. |
