Abstract:One of the most important embodiment and, at the same time, one of the greatest paradoxes of the Czechoslovak liberalisation process in the 1960s was scientific co-operation with the West. The agency of natural scientists in developments is studied here. It is argued that they served as instruments and catalysers of change in the attempts of the Czechoslovak state to modernize and integrate internationally.
