Abstract:In this study, the two traditional work absence (herein as: abs.) measures, that is, i) frequency, reflecting voluntary abs., and ii) duration, for non-voluntary abs. are compared in a test of the relationship btw. work abs. and employees' perceptions of organizational ethics (henceforth as: o-ethics). Archived data and questionnaires were gathered from more than 1,000 teachers in Israel. O-ethics is expressed through three variables: i) ethical climate (formal and caring), ii) organizational justice (distributive and procedural), and iii) teacher's tendency to misbehave. It is shown that four ethical constructs (that is, caring climate, formal climate, tendency to misbehave, and procedural justice) were related to abs. frequency, whereas only one (that is caring climate) was related to abs. duration.
