Tiivistelmä:This article presents an analysis demonstrating the application of McCracken's (1988) long interview method to gather data for grounded theory development. Both emic (self) and etic (researcher) interpretations of international visitor experiences reveal important insights on tourist behaviour and leisure travel decisions. Through long interviews of tourists visiting Hawaii's Big Island it is possible to map and compare visitors' motives, plans, decisions etc. The results show the complexity of visitors' travel decisions and behavior.
