| Tiivistelmä: | This article examines professional organizersÂ’ perceptions of how special events such as festivals affect local communities and aims to develop an instrument for measuring the impact. Based on the literature four dimensions in the perceptions of organizers are found: community cohesiveness, economic benefits, social incentives, and social costs. Using information from literature and expertsÂ’ recommendations an instrument with 17 items is proposed and empirically tested. The findings confirmed the existence of the four dimensions and the instrument was found to be valid, though caution with any generalizations of the results was recommended. |
