Tiivistelmä: | This paper aims to test how responsiveness (hereafter as: resp-s.) to key organizational stakeholders (here as: s-hldrs.) that is, owners, customers, employees, is related to organizational effectiveness (OE). Focused vs. balanced strategies of resp-s. are compared. Boolean algebra is employed to study performance (as: perf.) of 69 companies in three industries over a 10-year period. Resp-s. to key s-hldrs. and perf. are measured using publicly available data provided by the organizations (Compustat by Standard & Poor's). It is found that balanced resp-s. to multiple constituencies is more likely to lead to high OE than focused resp-s. to a single one. Trade-offs in resp-s. to key s-hldrs. are found supporting the idea that serving multiple interests is challenging. Most results are not industry-specific, the usefulness of a balanced strategy of resp-s. may be generalized. |
