| Tiivistelmä: | In this article the author explores the complex relationship between the corporate state and public service broadcasting in Europe by means of a historical case study of Ireland. It might be thought from the onset that the Irish case is an inappropriate one from which to generalize about media developments in Europe. Indeed, the Republic of Ireland, as a postcolonial state with a high degree of dependency on multinational capital, is a country in many ways untypical of Western Europe in terms of its economic and political structures. |
