| Tiivistelmä: | The lumber processing machinery industry manufactures machinery and equipment for the lumber industry, the plywood making industry and the manufacturing industry of furniture and housing fixtures. The trends of all these industries are decisively influenced by those of housing construction. New housing starts grew at a high pace after 1992 due to the government's policy of maintaining low interest rates. It stood at 1,480, 000 houses in 1995, down 9% from the previous year. Order receipts by the lumber processing machinery industry in that year also fell by 9.4%. |
