Tiivistelmä:The paper considers the topic of a global passport to better communication. In today's global marketplace, effective communication between trading partners is a critical component to more efficient marketing and distribution of products. Unfortunately, due to the lack of standard product coding around the world, electronic communication between countries and companies is often at best confusing - at worst impossible. In a global marketplace where time is money, confusion equals unnecessary cost. The paper also considers the case of the ACNNielsen global passport, the topic of rigid input and flexible output. In summary the author states that on a global scale, language and cultural differences in the use of products and categories brings additional barriers to coding harmonization.
