| Tiivistelmä: | This article studies the role of social interaction (SI) in determining firms' employment adjustments (hereafter as: emp-adjs.) in industrial districts, assuming that SI matters only among geographically close and similar firms. The first test is based on the correlation btw. individual and aggregate measures of emp-adjs. The problems of self-selection and unobserved common shocks are directly addressed. The second test shows that spillovers (here as: sp-os.) give rise to amplified responses to shocks and bunching of adjs. which gives further support to the role of SI in industrial clusters, suggesting that information sp-os. are one of the channels through which they take place. |
