| Tiivistelmä: | This paper explores real and nominal downward wage rigidities in West Germany between 1975 and 2001. Exploiting register data, the extent of rigidities are estimated from the observed distribution of individual wage changes. The results show that the amount of workers experiencing wage increases due to wage rigidities is considerable. In addition, the relationships between inflation and both real and nominal rigidities are studied. The authors suggest that the incidence of wage rigidity is most likely minimised when the inflation is moderate. |
