Tiivistelmä: | It is proposed by previous studies that a compensatory (here as: comp.) model predicts the level of foreign direct investment (FDI) in a country. FDI levels are a result of 'trade-offs' btw. the positive effect of market attractiveness (as: m-attrs.) and the negative influence of corruption (as: corr). In contrast, this study hypothesizes and finds that the comp. relationship only holds for market-seeking (here as: m-s.) investment. For resource-seeking (as: r-s.) FDI the model seems to be non-compensatory. Greater m-attrs. mitigates the negative impact of corr. on m-s. investment. However, the ability of m-attrs. to mitigate the negative impact of corr. on r-s. FDI quickly disappears as corr. levels increase. |
