Tiivistelmä:Integrating customers into the new product development (NPD) process has been recognized affecting into product innovation (henceforth as: p-i.) success. This paper deals with the customer integration by exploring the continual consideration of customer contributions all over the p-i. process. By comparing of the customer integration practices by development contractors (as: d-cs.) with those of in-house developers, it is found that the adaptive and iterative innovation process structures of the d-cs. facilitate the realization of the full customer contribution potential throughout the p-i. process. The findings base on in-depth case studies of the NPD activities of in-house developers (Buechi and Hilti), and product d-cs. (IDEO and Tribecraft).
