Tiivistelmä:The article examines how homophily and status differences affect knowledge integration among employees involved in product development activities. The focus is on how in knowledge search and transfer processes cognitive and motivational barriers to knowledge integration operate differently. A study of 434 knowledge integration practices with 49 participants in four software development teams is conducted. The results indicate that both homophily and status differences direct the knowledge searching process. However, only status differences affect the perceived value of knowledge transfer activities. It is further suggested that status cues directing search activities, and cues that affect the perceived value of knowledge transfer do not necessarily have relations to each other.
