Tiivistelmä:This study aims at: 1. exploring the influence of organizational size on innovations in museums with its impact on museums' economic, market and social performance, 2. analysing how the public-private funding impacts innovation and performance of museums. Based on information gathered from a survey of appr. 490 museums in Britain, France, Italy and Spain, it is found that museum size turns out to be relevant in the commitment to engage in innovation but that public funding of museums does not encourage innovation. In addition, the importance of the explanatory power of the type of funding on the performance of these cultural organizations is underlined. It is also uncovered how economic, market and social performance are enhanced by organizational and technological innovations and innovation in value creation in museums.
