| Tiivistelmä: | Purpose of this article is to explore the efficiency of university departments in an Italian region. The study analyses the changes in productivity in years 2004-2007 and detects factors that are potentially influencing efficiency. The study uses data envelopment analysis (DEA), Malmquist indexes and Kruskal-Wallis tests. The findings show that departments improved their efficiency, but the efficiency frontier deteriorated. However, external and measurable factors have limited impact in explaining efficiency differentials. |
